A Study on Age-specific Death Rate and Life Expectancy in Recent Korea

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to estimate age specific death rates and life expectancies. The basic data for this study were obtained from the 1960, 1966 and 1970 population census reports of Korea and Western Model Life Table Level 19 was of certain age-group death rate. Life table was constructed by Greville¢¥s Method.
The results are summarized as follows.
1) Population size of 25¡29 age group of male has decreased in 1970.
2) Crude death rate was estimated at 9.0 per 1,000(9.9 for male, 8.1 for female).
3) The general age-specific death mortality trend shows the highest rate at age 1 years, than it drops to the lowest point at age of around 10 years, after which it irregularly varies in the age of 15¡29 and then it rises again as age increases.
4) The ages at which the half of the cohort population survive are 65¡69 for male and 75¡79 for female.
5) Life expectancies were 57.21 years of for male and 64,00 years for female in 1965¡1970.
